Hook Generator (2026): 20 Free TikTok & UGC Hooks
Hook generator tools write the first line of your video for you: the 1 to 3 seconds that decide if someone watches or scrolls. The free version is below: 20 fill-in hook templates taken from the most-copied hooks in UGCdrop's library. Fill in the brackets with your product and audience and you have 20 hooks in five minutes. If you want an AI to write them from your website, Studio's "Help me write" does that on Pro and Unlimited.
TL;DR
Free option: the 20 templates on this page. Swap the brackets for your product, your buyer and their words.
AI option: "Help me write" in UGCdrop Studio. Paste your site or App Store link and it writes 10 to 100 hooks per batch in 42 languages.
What makes a hook work: simple, in your audience's own slang, and it leaves a question open. FOMO and a mild hot take are the strongest triggers.
What most generators skip: the video under the text. A hook line on a real surprised face beats the same line on a black screen.
Best pick: UGCdrop Studio
Most free hook generators stop at a list of text. You still have to find footage, edit it and export it. UGCdrop puts the whole ad in one place. Studio writes the hook, puts it on a real creator clip, adds your product demo and music, and renders it. Rendering is free. Only downloads use credits, from $0.49 per clip on Unlimited.
Open Studio and type your first hook, or read on for the free templates.
Free hook generator: 20 templates that get copied most
These come from the UGCdrop hook library, sorted by how often users copy them into their own ads. Each one is a pattern, not a finished line. The example fill is for a budget app aimed at people in their twenties. Swap in your own product and buyer.
Regret and late discovery
"if only i could [desired result] [in short time frame]..." Example: "if only i could stop being broke by the 20th..."
"ofc this only shows up after [paying for the usual alternative]" Example: "ofc this only shows up after I paid $40 for a budgeting course"
"bruh, [3 years] of [common action] and i only just found this" Example: "bruh, 3 years of spreadsheets and i only just found this"
"ain't no way i find this years after [being in that role]" Example: "ain't no way i find this years after my first paycheck"
"i literally just [solved the pain] and i only find this now..." Example: "i literally just paid off my card and i only find this now..."
Better way and shortcut
"this will change the way you [common action]" Example: "this will change the way you check your bank app"
"forget [popular alternative], use this if you want [result]" Example: "forget the 50/30/20 rule, use this if you want savings that stick"
"[common action] just got 10 times easier" Example: "budgeting just got 10 times easier"
"how to get [result] in [short time frame]" Example: "how to save your first $1,000 in 3 months"
"is it just me or is this the best way to [annoying task]" Example: "is it just me or is this the best way to split rent"
Problem and money
"don't have money for [usual alternative]? try this" Example: "don't have money for a financial advisor? try this"
"i got [bad outcome] because i didn't do this" Example: "i got 3 overdraft fees because i didn't do this"
"reach [result] without [usual alternative]" Example: "hit your savings goal without cutting out coffee"
"imagine [result] without [annoying task]" Example: "imagine knowing what you can spend without opening a spreadsheet"
Save, secret and status
"save this if you want [result] [in short time frame]" Example: "save this if you want to stop living paycheck to paycheck this year"
"save this if you [experience the pain]" Example: "save this if you check your balance with one eye closed"
"exposing my secret to [result]" Example: "exposing my secret to never running out of money before payday"
"screw it, here's the [niche] app i gatekept for years" Example: "screw it, here's the money app i gatekept for years"
"how to become better than 90% of [role] overnight" Example: "how to be better with money than 90% of your friends overnight"
"[role] are about to lose their jobs" Example: "financial advisors are about to lose their jobs"
Notice the style: lowercase, "bruh", "ofc", "ain't no way". These read like a friend's post, not an ad. That's the point. For 50+ more lines sorted by category, see our UGC ad hooks list.
How to write a hook that works (the formula behind the generator)
Simonas, UGCdrop's founder, has run UGC ads for four years. His formula is short:
Keep it simple. The viewer should get it in one read, with no context. If you need a second line to explain the first, cut it.
Talk like your audience. Use the words they use. If you market to Swifties, use Swiftie slang. A hook written in your buyer's language feels written for them, not for everyone.
Leave a question open. Make the viewer feel they don't know something and this video is the only way to find out. That's the open loop.
Pull an emotion. The two strongest are FOMO ("everyone found this before me") and a hot take the viewer disagrees with. Both make the viewer think: I need to see this.
The templates above follow this. "bruh, 3 years of spreadsheets and i only just found this" is simple, uses the audience's slang, opens a loop (found what?) and triggers FOMO.
One more thing generators can't tell you: what's trending this week. Simonas's view is that hooks riding a current trend and very simple hooks do best right now. Scroll your own For You page in your niche before you write. For a deeper walkthrough of hook types and testing, read how to write TikTok ad hooks.
The AI hook generator inside UGCdrop Studio
If you'd rather not fill in brackets, Studio's "Help me write" button writes hooks for you. It's on the Hooks step, the first of four (Hooks, Library, Demos, Music).
Here's what it asks for and why:
Your website or App Store link. It reads the page and fills in the fields for you.
Pain points. Who has the problem and how it feels. This is where your audience's words go.
Cost of inaction. What happens if they do nothing. Good for "i got [bad outcome] because i didn't do this" style hooks.
Solution and proof. What your product does and why someone should believe it.
How many and which language. 10, 25, 50 or 100 per batch, in 42 languages and regional variants.
The hooks drop straight into your hook list. One hook equals one video, so 20 hooks give you 20 ad variations to test.
Be clear on the plan: AI hook generation is included with Pro (100 hooks a month) and Unlimited (1,000 a month). New accounts get one free AI hook for their first video. Typing your own hooks and rendering in Studio is free.
Not to be confused with the AI UGC Hook Generator, which is a different tool. That one takes a reference clip whose hook already works and generates a new AI video with the same delivery. It makes video, not text.

Hooks for TikTok vs Reels vs Meta ads
The same hook can run everywhere. What changes is where the eye goes and how the hook is shown.
TikTok: native-looking text wins. Lowercase, casual, no brand logo in the first second. Keep the text out of the bottom and right edges, where captions and buttons sit.
Instagram Reels: similar to TikTok. The Snapchat-style caption bar and plain white text both look native here.
Meta feed ads (Facebook and Instagram): many people scroll with sound off, so the text has to do the work on its own. Put the hook in the text, not only in the voiceover.
Studio has five hook styles for this: Text, Snapchat, IMG, Text Wall and Green screen. Text Wall works when your hook is a longer story. Green screen puts a creator in front of an image, like a screenshot or a post. More detail per platform: UGC for TikTok ads and UGC for Meta ads.
The part every hook generator misses: the face
A hook line is half of the hook. The other half is what the viewer sees in the first frame.
In our download data, the most-downloaded clips in the UGCdrop library are surprised, shocked and excited reactions. The reaction stops the thumb. The text tells the viewer why they should keep watching. Put "ofc this only shows up after I paid $40 for a budgeting course" over a creator who looks shocked, and the viewer wants to know what she found.
Simonas ran this exact format for Tikomate, a digital product: a creator's reaction, a text hook, then a demo. It sold hundreds of copies, brought in around 2,000 leads, and the videos average around 100,000 views each. More on picking clips in our UGC stock videos guide.
When a free hook generator is enough
If you post organic videos, already have footage, and need a few ideas for this week, a free generator or the templates above are enough. ChatGPT works too if you give it your audience's words.
You need more when you're testing ads at volume. Ten hook lines are worth nothing until each one is a finished video with footage, a demo and audio. That's where most of the time goes, and where Studio saves it. It's built for apps, SaaS, digital products and services. If you sell a physical product that people need to see in someone's hands, hire a creator for that shot and use the hooks here for the text.
How to turn a hook into a video ad in UGCdrop
Write or generate hooks. In Studio, type your hooks from the templates above, or click "Help me write" and paste your link.
Pick the hook style. Text, Snapchat, IMG, Text Wall or Green screen. The preview updates as you type.
Pick the clip. On the Library step, choose a real creator reaction that fits your buyer. Surprised and shocked are the safe first test.
Add your demo and music. Upload a screen recording that shows 1 to 3 steps and a clear result, then add a sound. Render for free and download the ones you want to run.
Want saved hooks you can browse instead? The hook library (Pro and up) lets you search and copy hooks other marketers use, sorted by For You, Recent or Most Copied.
FAQ
What is a hook generator?
A hook generator is a tool that writes the opening line of a video or ad. You give it your product or topic, and it returns lines built on proven patterns like curiosity, FOMO or a hot take.
Is there a free hook generator?
Yes. The 20 templates on this page are free with no login. Virlo, Hypotenuse and Selzee also have free text generators. UGCdrop's AI generator is part of the Pro and Unlimited plans.
What is the best AI hook generator for TikTok ads?
For a quick list of lines, any free AI generator works. For ads, pick one that also puts the hook on a video. UGCdrop Studio writes the hooks from your website and renders them on real creator clips.
How long should a TikTok hook be?
Short enough to read in about two seconds. Most strong hooks are one line of under 12 words.
What are the best hooks for UGC ads?
Simple hooks in your audience's slang that leave a question open. Late discovery ("i only just found this"), money ("don't have money for X? try this") and save hooks ("save this if...") get copied most in our library.
Can I use AI-written hooks in paid ads?
Yes. A hook is just ad copy. Check that every claim is true for your product, because the ad platforms review claims, not who wrote them.
How many hooks should I test per ad?
Test several per concept, with the same demo underneath, so the hook is the only thing that changes. Simonas's rule from four years of UGC ads: test lots, then double down on the winner.
Bottom line
A hook generator gives you lines. The templates above give you 20 of the most-copied patterns for free. The hook that wins is simple, sounds like your buyer and leaves a question open. Then put it on a real reaction, add your demo and test 10 at once.
